Early Morning Birdwatching cruises and Sunset Photography nature tours on the Daintree River.

Early morning

Offers the optimum opportunity for some great bird-watching and photography.

Species often found include the Great- Billed Heron, Black Bittern when in season, Nankeen Night Heron, Papuan Frogmouth, Double-Eyed Fig Parrot, Wompoo Fruit-Dove, Shining Flycatcher, Large-billed Gerygone, Yellow bellied Sunbird – (Olive backed).

Sunset Tour

Late afternoon is also another very rewarding time on the river for birdwatching. As the wind tends to drop late in the afternoon, you can observe birds looking for that last meal of the day, or flying down to the water bathing, before retiring for the night.

See a crocodile laying on a bank catching the last of the sun’s rays; green tree snakes coming out on to the edge of the Native Hibiscus to sleep for the night. Or spot an Amethystine Python curled up in a tree after having a large meal. Watch as hundreds of Cattle Egrets fly low over the water on their way to roost for the night. The fragrance of flowering trees dispersing their perfume late evening add to the river experience.

Finish your tour with some magical sunsets.
